Level 1 MRI Teaching Course, 16 & 17 June 2012

Course Faculty

Professor Joseph Selvanayagam, Adelaide, South Australia

Dr Sanjay Prasad, London, United Kingdom

Dr Stuart Grieve, Consultant Radiologist, Sydney, New South Wales

Dr Subodh Joshi, Consultant Cardiologist, Melbourne, Victoria

Course Overview

This 2 day teaching course is designed to enhance clinical practice skills by providing intense training in interpreting cardiac MRI examinations under the supervision of teaching faculty. The course lectures on day 1 will cover basic MRI physics, MRI safety as well as CMR scanning protocols for common cardiac conditions. Mentored case review sessions on day 2 (on dedicated workstations with no more than 2 attendees per workstation) will be available to allow course attendees to view teaching cases covering aspects of viability, perfusion, cardiomyopathy imaging, as well as valvular heart disease, pericardial disease and congenital heart disease. Cases viewed can be documented to form part of SCMR requirements for Level 1 training.  Level 1 aim is to provide the attendee with the working knowledge of CMR methods and diagnostic utility.

Certificate of Proficiency

Attendees will be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency that includes the mentored number of cases reviewed, for use in credentialing which can contribute to the case requirements specified in the ACFC/AHA/SCMR Level 1 requirements for Clinical competence in Cardiac Imaging with Magnetic Resonance

Level 1:  Total of 50 cases

50 mentored cases reviewed AND manipulated on a workstation.

MEETING CONCLUDES 1730

*denotes principles of analysis/acquisition

**denotes workshop case reviews manipulated on workstations. Maximum of 20 attendees on day 2 with dedicated workstations with no more than 2 attendees per workstation. Here the attendees will be given opportunity to personally manipulate and interpret teaching cases on workstations (Expected number of cases to be completed is 45-50). These cases will be coded and most will have case history attached and can be recorded as part of the 50 mentored cases as for SCMR level 1 requirements.
